Expo 2016 Antalya was the first International Expo to be hosted by Turkey. The event was organised under the theme “Flowers and Children”, with the motto “A Green Life for Future Generations”. The Expo's main aim was to offer children a unique opportunity to learn about natural resources, sustainable development and ecological options.
Held in Aksu, Antalya, on a 112-hectare site, Expo 2016 was a unique opportunity to gain an insight in horticulture and sustainable development in innovative ways.
The subthemes of Expo 2016 Antalya were History, Biodiversity, Sustainability and Green Cities. The event was organised in order to support ecological and natural agriculture, to build knowledge of the environment and to help find alternative energy sources and solutions for environmental issues. During the six months of the Expo, various national and international conferences, seminars and panel discussions were held around the main theme and sub-themes, addressing issues such as global warming, ecological farming, the protection of biodiversity, sustainability and food security.
The horticultural traditions of over 50 international participants were exhibited along with 38 ‘urban best practices’, selected from throughout the world. These included smart solutions in agricultural techniques, organic farming, biotechnology, sustainability and answers to environmental problems.
