ITALY and the BIE

Italy is a historical member of the BIE and has been involved in World Expos ever since they started in 1851 with the London World Fair. As an active participant and organizer of Expos, Italy was one of the 31 countries that signed the Paris Convention of 1928 that created the BIE and it became a member state in 1931. Since then, Italy has participated to most World and International Expos and hosted Rome 1953, Naples 1954, Turin 1955 and 1961 and Genoa 1992. Italy is also the organizer of the triennial event on design La Triennale di Milano created in 1933. 20 years after the last Triennale of 1996, Milan will re-launch its event in 2016.
