Shoichiro Toyoda, 1925-2023

The BIE is saddened to learn of the passing of Shoichiro Toyoda, at the age of 97, on 14 February 2023.

Shoichiro Toyoda served as Chairman of the Japan Association for the 2005 World Exhibition, Expo 2005 Aichi, where his attention to detail and cooperative spirit played a pivotal role in the successful organisation of the “Nature’s Wisdom” Expo.

Honorary Chairman of Toyota Motor Corporation until his death, Shoichiro Toyoda was an accomplished businessman and proud native of Aichi, with an expansive legacy. His ethos may be remembered by these words he pronounced following the closing of Expo 2005 Aichi: “The twenty-first century must become a turning point when humans acknowledge diversity and seek to coexist harmoniously not only among themselves but also with our planet.”
