Horticultural Expo 2023 Doha is the first International Horticultural Exhibition to be held in Qatar, the Middle East and North Africa region. It adopts the theme of Green Desert, Better Environment, which seeks to inspire and raise awareness about innovative solutions with the aim of mitigating and reducing desertification.

A1-category International Horticultural Expo 2023 Doha opened its doors on 2 October 2023 and will close its doors on 28 March 2024.

Due to the diversity of its participants and audiences, ranging from top decision-makers to children, Expo 2023 Doha is bent on offering a multifaceted event where extraordinary exhibitions, diplomatic encounters, business meetings, public debates and live shows will take place.

The event is projected to welcome over 3 million visits, with guests converging from all around the world. Admission to the Exhibition Site is free of charge for all visitors, offering them an exciting opportunity to enjoy the Expo's sprawling gardens, international area, activities and entertainment.

The hosting of an International Horticultural Expo within an arid climate - the first of its kind - is expected to have a profound impact and major legacy in Qatar, in the region and internationally. The event will promote sustainable behaviours, increase environmental awareness, and advance green technologies for urban settings and arid regions.

Green Desert, Better Environment

The theme for Horticultural Expo 2023 Doha, Qatar, is "Green Desert, Better Environment", which aims to inspire and inform guests and the international community about innovative solutions to mitigate desertification.

Recent advances in horticultural techniques and technologies are enabling the ‘greening’ of desert environments and land surfaces threatened by desertification, which is increasing critical initiatives to combat global water, energy, and food scarcity problems.

Successful results require strategic solutions through international cooperation, goal sharing, information exchange and technological innovation.
"Green Desert, Better Environment" is based around four subthemes:

  • Modern Agriculture - Providing innovation, research and scientific advancements to produce safe, sustainable and affordable food for the increasing population of the world;
  • Technology & Innovation - Incorporating new techniques to enhance farming productivity and balance environmental sustainability. Technological advancement has a critical role in establishing resilient and energy efficient farming methods, which greatly diminish the use of chemical-intensive agriculture;
  • Environmental Awareness - Raising global awareness to promote a long-term change in attitudes and behaviour towards the environment. It is a tool for encouraging the protection of natural resources, raising a sense of connection to the natural world and promoting sustainable development;
  • Sustainability - Achieving humanity's common objective of balancing different needs on both a local and global level to transform lifestyles, business practices and governmental policies that respects future generations by recognising global environmental challenges.

The site of Horticultural Expo 2023 Doha, Qatar is located in Al Bidda Park, in the heart of Doha.

The site is divided into three distinctive zones, of which the Northern portion hosts the international event. The remaining two zones are used for a variety of cultural and entertainment activities, panel discussions and other complementary functions.

International Zone (70 ha): The Expo gateway and focal point of international gardens, exhibitions and events.

The area includes the Expo House, a multifunctional building, built purposely for the Expo. Within the Expo House there is an open events' space, a prayer room, and a café on the ground floor. On the first floor there is a media centre and offices, while the rooftop contains a terrace, an indoor restaurant and a garden.

The International Area will also have an Innovation Centre located in the second largest existing building on site. The Innovation Centre will include an exhibition space for a variety of interactive events. The space will be designed to embrace the Expo theme and will have a dedicated area for children to learn more about the Expo's sub-themes.

Family Zone (50 ha): A hub for family fun, activities, gathering and outdoor pursuits.

Cultural Zone (50 ha): The perfect venue for cultural and traditional activities and exhibitions thanks to its proximity to the historical core of Doha and its on-site features including the Old Fort and Old Rocks.

The Expo site is well located, being just moments from the Corniche (Doha’s pedestrian waterfront promenade) and the pedestrianised historical core of Doha - Msheireb and Souq Waqif.

The site benefits from excellent connectivity, being served by two newly developed metro stations (Corniche station & Al Bidda station) and five large underground car-parking facilities.

Al Bidda is one of Doha's key green public spaces, beautifully designed and overlooking the azure waters of the Arabian Gulf.

Excellent location, quality landscaping and ample space for pavilions make Al Bidda a perfect venue to host such a prestigious international event.

Doha, located on the coast of the Arabian Gulf, is the capital and most populous city of the State of Qatar and a growing economic hub.

Recognised for its contemporary architecture and cultural attractions, Doha seamlessly merges past, present and future together, for which it was recognised as one of the New7Wonder Cities in 2015.

Doha’s world class travel hub, Hamad International Airport and Qatar's national airline - Qatar Airways - constitute a leading worldwide network connecting the city with destinations around the world. The recently opened metro system is one of the most advanced urban transportation systems in the Gulf Region, providing seamless connectivity for Doha residents and visitors during the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the subsequent Horticultural Expo 2023 Doha, Qatar – key events that showcase Doha's urban potential and its unique offering to the world.
